At the beginning of August, the world famous premier sailing regatta of Cowes Week is held.
Ranging from high-tech racing boats to classic boats over 1000 vessels and 8,000 people take part, it's not surprising why Cowes Week is the longest running regular regatta in the world.
Cowes Week has had its place on the social calendar since 1926.
As well as the sailing activities Cowes Week offers a wide variety of shore based activities, from an excellent line up of live bands playing into the early hours to a vast selection of cuisine. Around 50,000 visitors every year are attracted to Cowes by the festival atmosphere of the event in addition to all the competitors. The weeks main sailing is brought to a climax with the world renowned firework spectacular on the Friday evening
The next Cowes Week will take place from 31st July to 7th August 2010
